Je, su, and ja sam
Je means is, while su means are. Ja sam means I am, with the short verb form in its natural second position.
Gender agreement
Kafana and kahva are feminine, so they take mala, stara, dobra, and otvorena. Hljeb is masculine, so it is dobar.
U plus a place
U means in. After u, a place often changes form, as in u Mostaru and u kuhinji.
Amina is now in Mostar.

The kafana is small and old.
The door is old.
Now Amina opens the door.

The photograph is old.
"Hello, Grandma," Amina says.
Grandma is not here.
Amina says, "I am here."
The bread is in the kitchen.
Tetka Fatima is in the kitchen.
"Hello, Amina," Tetka Fatima says.
"Hello, Tetka Fatima," Amina says.
The bread is good.
Tetka Fatima eats the bread.
Now Amina eats the bread.
The coffee is here.
The coffee is good.
"Thank you," Amina says.
"Good?" Tetka Fatima asks.
"Good, thank you," Amina says.
The photograph is here.
"This is the kafana," Amina says.
Amina opens the door now.
The door is open.
Now the kafana is open.
"For now?" Tetka Fatima asks.
"Yes, for now," Amina says.
Tetka Fatima says, "Yes."
Amina is here now.
And the kafana is open.
