Norwegian nouns come in two genders. Learn the article glued to the noun: en kafé, en dame, en dør, but et bord, et bilde, et kjøkken. There is no rule to guess it by, so you learn the pair together from the very first meeting.

One verb form for everyone

Norwegian present tense never changes with the subject. Jeg kommer, du kommer, hun kommer, Liv kommer all use the exact same word. Once you know baker or sier, you can already use it with anyone.

The ending that means the

Norwegian can add a small ending to a noun instead of using a separate word for the. Kafé becomes kafeen, bord becomes bordet, bilde becomes bildet. The ending rides right on the noun as one word.
