Este means is, and it also means there is: Aici este o fotografie is literally Here is a photograph. Sunt means I am when Ana says it about herself, and it also means they are for more than one thing: Munții sunt aici, the mountains are here. Romanian usually drops the word for I or they, because the verb ending already tells you who.
Romanian glues the word for the onto the end of a noun instead of putting it in front. Cafenea, a café, becomes cafeneaua, the café; pâine becomes pâinea; ușă becomes ușa. Each of these counts as one word to learn, and once you spot the pattern you can read it everywhere in this chapter.
Cafeneaua, ușa, masa, pâinea, and cafeaua are all feminine nouns, so the words describing them take a feminine ending too: mică (small), veche (old), bună (good). Every noun in this chapter happens to be feminine, so you will only see this one ending for now. A different ending appears later, once a noun that is not feminine needs describing.
