Serbian uses сам with ја, си with ти, је with one person or thing, and су with plural nouns such as врата.
Cases after prepositions
A noun changes after у and на: кафић becomes у кафићу, and сто becomes на столу.
No article
Serbian has no words for a or the. Context tells you whether кафић means a café or the café.
Mila is here.
This is Sremski Karlovci.
This is a small café.
This is Grandma's café.
Mila is in the café now.
The door is open.
"Hello?" Mila says.
The café is small but open.
A table is here.
A cup is on the table.
Mila says: "I am here, Grandma."
"Good morning," Zora says.
Zora is in the café.
Zora bakes bread.
Bread is on the table.
Mila drinks coffee.
"My name is Mila," Mila says.
"My name is Zora," Zora says.
Zora bakes Grandma's bread.
Mila says: "Grandma and Zora."
Zora bakes, and Mila drinks.
Grandma's café is open.
Grandma's cup is on the table.
Zora bakes bread, and the café is open.
Mila drinks coffee.
"Thank you," Mila says.
Zora says: "Are you staying?"
Mila is here now.
The door is open.
The café is small and open.
"Yes," Mila says.
"I am staying for now."
Mila stays, and the door is open.
