Before you read
Two ways to be
Use soy/es for identity and estoy/está for location or condition: Soy Nora, but Estoy aquí. Spanish often drops the subject because the verb already points to it.
The little words el and la
Spanish nouns have grammatical gender. El goes with café and pan; la goes with puerta, foto, mesa, cocina, and abuela.
Saying where something is
Put en before a place: en Albarracín, en el café, en la cocina. Aquí means here and can stand alone.
Albarracín is here.
Nora is in Albarracín.
Albarracín is old.
The café is in Albarracín.
The café is small.
Nora is at the door.
The door is old.
Nora says, "No."
Nora is not in the café.
Nora says, "Hello."
The photo of her grandmother is here.
The café in the photo is small.
The door is old.
Nora is inside the café.
The café is small and old.
The table is here.

It is the photo of Carmen.
Carmen is in the café.
